At 6 In the Shipyard this Sunday artist Dianne Panarelli Miller will be painting oil portraits for the amazingly inexpensive rate of $125 for a one-person, small portrait – or 2 people seated portraits for the price of $250.

Artist Dianne P. Miller offers fine art portraits at 6 In the Shipyard

Visit Diane P. Miller's Website for More Images of her work!

About the Artist: Fine Artist  Dianne Panarelli Miller studied art for 10 years in college, private classes and ateliers, and has been painting for an additional 20 years to further develop her craft. Desiring a unique style, she worked hard to paint in her own voice from life and not photographs.

A local artist to the South Shore, Dianne was born in Quincy, MA in 1961 and graduated Braintree High School. She went on to receive a diploma at Vesper George College of Art in 1982, where she met and later studied intensively with Robert Cormier until she began at the R. H. Ives Gammel Atelier established by Cormier and Robert Douglas Hunter in Gammel’s honor.

Ms. Miller is comfortable doing portraits, landscapes, murals and cityscapes. As a full-time painter, she accepts the challenges each subject brings with excitement and vitality. She is a Copley Society Artist, has received numerous awards and is currently a faculty member and Gallery Artist for South Shore Art Center.

You can visit Dianne P. Miller’s Website to see her full gallery of impressive portraits.

To reserve a spot for Sunday, email Alice Sloan or stop in the shop with a deposit of $75. Portrait hours will be 1pm- 4pm and later if needed. Dianne will be returning in December for more portrait painting.

One year ago this month, six women had the dream of launching their own businesses in a collaborative fashion and artisan boutique. After a year of parties, events, promotions, and lots of laughs, the talents of these women have built something extraordinary together: a 100% handmade shop featuring work of local artisans, as well as affordable fashion merchandise and hostess gifts called 6 In the Shipyard.

Handmade art and jewelry at 6 In the Shipyard

As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods – merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor. This year will be different: this year Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by American hands. Yes, it can!

It’s time to think outside the box, people – who says a gift needs to be wrapped in Chinese-produced wrapping paper? Here are some great gift-giving ideas for everyone on your list this holiday season:

1) There are a bazillion owner-run restaurants, such as our neighbor Alma Nove, or the newest restaurant addition to The Launch at Hingham Shipyard, Wahlburgers  – all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn’t the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint.

Remember, this isn’t about big National chains – this is about supporting your home town Americans with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open. Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip.

2) Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day. She’d also love soothing spa gifts from Soul One One, like lotion candles, luxurious bathrobes, or locally handmade soaps.

3) For a more personal gift, local crafts people spin their own wool and knit them into scarves. They make paintings, pottery, and beautiful wooden boxes. We’ve actually found them, and have a few sub-vendors representing these skillful products.

We have a whole section of hand-thrown pottery now available from our newest vendor, Sloan Fine Art, as well as unique handmade jewelry pieces from Museum School of Fine Arts graduate, Ashley Osgood.

4) Support local artists by giving the gift of art: Sea Glass Photography offers a variety of framed and unframed prints, many of which are at affordable prices and go with nearly any decor.

5) New baby this Christmas? Dock This Way has several embroidery lines of bibs and onesies, all featuring sayings perfect for Christmas, or for any bouncing baby in general!

Christmas is no longer about draining American pockets so that China can build another glittering city. Christmas starting 2011 – onward is now about caring about US, encouraging American small businesses like 6 In the Shipyard to keep plugging away to follow their dreams. And, when we care about other Americans, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we couldn’t imagine. THIS is the new American Christmas tradition.

Happy shopping, hope to see you all at the Shipyard soon!
